Colorblind is a smallish mod with one purpose: To make life easier on the colorblind (well, to make playing WoW easier atleast).
Disclaimer: I am not colorblind. I have no idea how the world looks for colorblind people, so I am going by what people say bothers them with the UI (that I can in any way fix.)
That said, here's what's in the package right now:
* Moneys - Replaces coins with letters (g, s, c).
* MonoCombo - Turns the red dots in the Combo-point display white.
* QuestLogLevels - Shows the levels of your quests by their titles, eg. "[60] Servant, fetch me a newspaper (Raid)".
* Tooltip_Rarity - Shows the rarity/quality of an item in it's tooltip. 99.9% stolen from Micah's ColorBlind. (Why reinvent the wheel? <3)
* TradeskillGains - Shows how likely you are to gain skill from crafting an item, represented by pluses. (+++ = always gain, ++ likely to gain, etc.)
* UnitReaction - Shows an NPC's reaction towards you in their tooltip. (Hated, Revered, etc.)
Commands:
'/cblind' shows the information listed below.
'/cblind mono' to make mob name and mob reaction plain white.
'/cblind color' to make them have the color appropriate for the mob.
'/cblind coins' to show coins.
'/cblind letters' to replace the coins with letters.
'/cblind qlevels' to toggle showing quest levels.
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

TorenAltair saidI made a small fix for Patch 2.2. Just unpack the file and put the Tooltip_Rarity.lua into the Colorblind directory. At least it works for me.
I have put the file on my webspace under http://www.space-blog.com/Colorblind-fix.rar
If Megabob or whoever is in charge of this mod wants to put this changes on the site here, feel free so or contact me through my homepage.

RaverJK saidI am Colorblind and was glad to find an addon that picks up this problem, but actually i just would like to be able to change the color of epic items. The rest is not that difficult. But I like this solution, too.
There is a bug when you're getting a quest and it shows the Items you'll get if you finish that qust. When hovering the items, I get a Number postet in the Chat window. Sometimes a "2", sometimes a "1".

Snuk-the-Great saidGreat idea. I myself am not colorblind, but my younger brother is. I see him strugle with red/green situations verry often (and still playing better then me :P). However he did kind of teach him self to see the smallest destinction in shades of colours that sometimes amaze me. Im sure he will like it. Keep up the great work!

Starus saidI'm helping a friend who is colorblind and came across this great mod!
One of my friend's main problems is that he cannot distinguish many different colors. So has his Party, Raid and whisper text are all set to very similar color so that he can read them easily. The problem is that he cannot quickly distinguish between types of chat.
Is there any way I can make all whisper text Italics, or bold or a different font?
Thanks!

Morgul saidI thought i would chime in on the errors in hopes that the author will take time to fix this addons. I had grown dependent on it and miss it since it does not work with the last push.
thank you Morgul

mcbryde saidFirstly I'd like to give thanks for the efforts involved. http://www.vischeck.com/ gives a nice explanation of the various types of colorblindness, and has Photoshop plug-ins available (free) that will let you convert normal pictures into what they look like to a colorblind person. For small images I believe their website will do it for you.

SiC_Goat saidActually I have a friend who is colorblind in the sense he only sees values of black and white (0 to 9 in photoscale) as well as all values in between. If you took a rainbow of equally hued and darkened colors [blue][green][red] for instance, they would seem all the same to him.

Treyo saidI've started an "Other" package called Colorblind++ ( http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=993 ) that brings in a few enhancements to the Colorblind mod. If enough interest is generated and/or if Megabob (thanks again for taking over this mod!) wants to I'll be happy to help integrate these changes into the main Colorblind branch.

Flisher saidI know someone that only see 1 red and 1 yellow, everything else is bleu to him.
While mose human will recognise about 30 black to white color, he can distinguish about 60 tone of color in bw, red, green or blue. However, an orange can be like a purple and a green to him.
He doesn't play wow tho so I can't test the addon with him.

avizion saidWhile I think most people know colourblind != black/white vision, I think mond did a "sweet" thing in trying to emulate your "world" in a pretty simple and effecient way.
I recon it would be a lot harder to replace coloured text in a video, rather than just convert it to b/w.
Anyhow - I just want to say I think this is a great addon for the people in need. I don't have any problems myself - but it's still a great addon :)

Megabob saidGot control of the project today, uploaded a new version that works 99% (for me, atleast).
The blue color request confuzzles me, as on my install, blue players have white text in the popup. Maybe it's another mod making it blue?

Morgasaurus saidGreat Mod! My roomate is colorblind, and when I was introducing him to WC3 he had a few issues with how all the players referred to each other by the colors: "OMFG TEAL j00 SuX!" For example.. heh.
Yes colorblindness is caused by a deficient sensory input signal from the cones in your eye. Night blindness is rods... That's an IIRC because I ALWAYS mix the two up. There are two different common types: red-deficient and green-deficient.
In the 90s, changes were made to many traffic lights around the country to accomidate red-deficiency, because yellow lights or the amber emergency lights were difficult to distinguish from red lights. As the above posters say, you can make logical conclusions to overcome this. Like Red is top, yellow is middle, green is bottom. But in some circumstances, like flashing traffic lights or heavy rain, it would be hard to tell the difference.
If you wanted to actually see kind of like a red-deficient you COULD try to modify the hardware gamma settings and take the red spectrum down near zero. This wouldn't be totally accurate due to the differences in the way computers render graphics and the way cones send sensory signals, but it would be kinda close.
Also, it is a commonly accepted theory that those with color-blindness have very superior night-vision. Similar to the way sensory compensation occurs with those who are fully blind or deaf.
