  • About Gatherer
  •

Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.

For more information, please visit us at http://www.gathereraddon.com/

USAGE:

Just use the game as normal. When you gather things, they will appear on your minimap and your main map. If you want to configure the addon, click the Gatherer configuration icon floating around your minimap frame or type /gather options.

    Hi there Yorsh,

Not sure about Carbonite- but the other2 should be just fine.

The defaults included should be fine, requiring no real intervention unless you want to customize things- the biggest thing to remember is that Gatherer, "out of the box" only tracks those mineral, herb, and treasure nodes that you collect from that point forward.

Once you begin collecting nodes, the only thing that can really keep things from showing are the display settings within Gatherer. There are quite a few, but what can we say, our users like their options.

**If you mis-click on the minimap or slide bar button, that can turn off the display of nodes- be sure that you did not deactivate Gatherer by clicking one of those buttons. If you hover over the button, help text will display informing you which button on your mouse to click to open the options and that the other disables the display of nodes.

If you are not seeing your nodes after ensuring that Gatherer is set to "on", first ensure that all of the settings say to show each of the node types for each character, regardless of profession. You can turn off things later, if you feel the need.

The other thing to look for is the section of the configuration where it talks about hiding the HUD when you are in town, as you are flying, swimming, or some other settings that you are certainly free to change.

Let us know if you figure out what went wrong,

    Nikk

I'm having trouble with Gatherer since the patch. I can mark chests, but not mining or hebalism nodes. I also have mine set to tell me when I recieve guildies gathers and I recieve those, but it doesn't mark them on my map. Any ideas?? Thnx for the time.

    Hiya SpitFire785,

Check the various configuration settings within Gatherer's display options- sounds as if you only have the Treasure setting active but have the herb and mining nodes disabled.

Let us know if that is the issue,

    Nikk

  • July 24, 2008, 12:18AM (2 days, 23 hours ago)

I would love a sound whenever a node is within track distance. That way you might collect some nodes you otherwise would have missed because you didn't pay enough attention to the minimap.

    DreadKnight,

There is no way to obtain such information from the Blizzard API. Until such functionality is added/enabled, there is nothing we can do.

Thank you for the feedback, though,

  • July 23, 2008, 07:09PM (3 days, 5 hours ago)

    MadsNicolai,

What would you like updated? There have been no changes requiring an update since 3.1.2 has been out.

Is something not working for you?

    Thank you,

    Nikk

Rather than deal with this addon's overall bloat, overzealous configuration options, and strange visuals, I'd recommend folks consider using GatherMate instead. GatherMate has a significantly smaller memory footprint and tracks things that Gatherer doesn't.

  • July 23, 2008, 06:18AM (3 days, 17 hours ago)

    Koitsu,

What sort of software are you using to benchmark and then track system resource usage? What numbers are you seeing using GatherMate, installed alone, and Gatherer installed alone?

Gatherer's configuration options are set so that if you do not even access the configuration, the nodes being tracked by a character are what are displayed. The rest of the configuration options are there in response to user requests and are not required to be used, if not needed.

As with cars, houses, games, computers, food, et cetera, every addon will never meet every need of every user. We welcome anyone to try any of the options available and use the one that meets their needs.

quick question, i need to update gather. is there a way to transfer my node locations to the new version or will I have to start over from scratch?
    thankyou

  • July 20, 2008, 10:01AM (6 days, 14 hours ago)

    Dugowt1,

The nodes should be fine- they are stored, as is every client setting, in the ..\WorldofWarcraft\WTF directory while the processing part is found in ..\WorldofWarcraft\Interface\Addons.

To be safe, you should back up both directories just in case there are any issues- that way you can alway use your backup file. We recommend that you back up the WTF folder every few days and the Addons directory any time you update an Addon or there is a major WoW patch.

    Happy Upgrading,

    Nikk

Working so far, just wanted to add i think you should add a cord system to this add-on

  • July 19, 2008, 10:26PM (1 week ago)

    ChildHoodHorror,

We have considered that in the fast, but honestly, there are about 30 other addons that provide coordinates.

We try to keep Gatherer as streamlined as possible, so we will most likely not be doing so- that said, you can try one of the others, such as those by Darcey http://my.curse.com/users/darcey/ or, if you want a full featured coordinate mod check out the wizardry of Cladhaire http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7032-TomTom.html .

Even though this specific item may not make it in, right now anyway, we do appreciate the input- please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything else you think may be of help.

    Happy location scouting,

    Nikk

    F460Juno,

As seen in the files section, the current version of Gatherer is 3.1.2.

Based upon the error/stack trace you have 3.0.

You need to update to the latest release, you can either choose the file above or visit the main site at http://GathererAddOn.Com/dl/ . Full installation instructions can be found at http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/24/#w_installation-guide/ .

    Happy Gatherering,

    Nikk

Hi, I just installed Gatherer 3.1.2 as well as the DB but now whenever I am tracking herbs there are these little herb icons at my feet that constantly change. (My guess is that they are telling me to go that direction to get a certain herb. I also use Quest Helper and Cartographer. Can anyone please help me get rid of the herb icons at my feet? Thanks!

  • July 18, 2008, 10:33PM (1 week, 1 day ago)

    Minnow321,

Without a screen shot, sounds like the HUD, heads up display, is showing low on your screen.

If you go into the options, then the HUD section, you can move the HUD to any location on the screen or disable it altogether.

    Hope this helps,

    Nikk
