World of Warcraft

Expansion Rumors Abound!

Posted Sep 17, 2008 by Kody

Boubouille has done quite a bit of detective work the past day or two regarding the rumored World of Warcraft expansion that many expect will be announced at BlizzCon on Friday.

The past two days he's uncovered two very interesting tidbits of information. First, he found that the URL http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath returns a different error(403 - Forbidden) than typing in something completely random like http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/heydudes or http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/orcfood - both of which return 404 - Not Found errors.

Now he's found something else; the German website http://www.usk.de has something called "World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (GC-Demo)" listed on the website. The GC obviously stands for the upcoming Games Convention, held in Leipzig, Germany from August 23rd to August 26th.

As of right now these are strictly rumors, but this should certainly spark quite a bit of debate!

TOO SOON! THEY KILL OFF THE LICH KING TOO SOON!

But that's just my opinion... Northrend here we come.

God, why do they make players go around the world killing all Warcraft legends... Kael'thas, Lady Vashj, Illidan, Kel'Thuzad and the next? Arthas... NO way....

  • Tue, Jul 31 2007 9:57 PM ()

You can't stay legends forever. They kill off some legends in every Warcraft game. Its just how it has to be.

Griping about important character getting killed will serve no use.

Kel'Thuzad, Vashj, Illidan, etc. have all been important characters in Warcraft's history, but this is the forward progression of the storyline, and if Arthas is in line for a confrontation, so be it.

There are plenty of important, "evil" entities in Warcraft to keep the game running for a long time - and when they run out, a spaceship can always crash into Azeroth to bring them more.

I have to agree that they are wanting to tie up the main story line WAY too quickly. Blizzard just loves to leave little side-lore open without any questions answered, and they only seem to come when other huge events come out. ENOUGH. I'm sure they can do enough with all the open ended stuff to keep us occupied for a while.

We already know EVENTUALLY Blizzard is going to give us the chance to kill the Lich King/Arthas.. BUT NOT THIS SOON. Do something with the Emerald Dream, the Old gods, Infinate dragonflight, Uldam, Grim Batol.... that's just naming a few.

  • Tue, Jul 31 2007 9:57 PM ()

Here's the explanation. It's too easy to get to level 70 whomever is level 60 already. That is if you don't work full time of course or if there is such a thing as a World of Warcraft paying job other than Blizzard's.

There's been even rumors that they already killed the TBC's lead ringer Ilidian more than one time.

Last but not least, how long would it take before Blizzard succumbs and WoW is another dust collector of good MMORPGs shut down?

i remember reading something about grim batol and uldam somewhere..don't remember where but those 2 would be nice...the lore that surrounds them are cool but the last time i rmember grim batol thats where Krasus and Alexstraza are....could be wrong...but why blizz would make us fight them is beyond me...so we'd end up fighting the dwarves that are there to like brd....and uldam would probly be like an earthen MC without needing 40 ppl to do @ 60. Emerald Dream would be nice ...specially for the acid poppers out there. But all that aside i agree with blizz progressing tooo fast. i figured when u down ilidan it would go something like you get him to 1%....yada yada he flies off and they can keep the story goin with him for a while. I personally will never get to fight ilidan much less arthas but if they could do that in northrend then i'd be content

I dunno just cuase its called wrath of the lich king doesn't mean we are nessicarily going to fight arthas. more over a being as powerful as the lich king which doesn't nessicarily have a physical for(i mean it is sorta just possessing arthas' body atm) killing arthas may not be the same as downing the lich king.

besides traveling to the Emerald dream strikes me as even more powerful then just hitting northrend. though if they do emerald dream i would love to see some truely unique and different armor, some that reflects the dreams transformitive nature. like say maybe some rogue armor patterned on snakes that the gloves look like snake heads, the scales change color depending on where you are and when you wear both the boots and the leg pieces your lower body is replaced with a naga like snake body.

Oh and if you go over to IGN they got a whole different rumor. theirs calls the new expansion Into the Maelstrom. having it open up the center of azeroth with island zones and Undermine as a new city. also comments on the lvl cap going to 80 but no new talents. Instead from 70 on will take place as hero classes which would function as a sorta subclass. more info here http://pc.ign.com/articles/809/809350p1.html

The IGN rumor has been around for a few months now so I'm kind of doubting it. I'd say this one is a lot more plausable, personally.

Are you sure we will fight the Lich King then ;) Kel'Thuzad is not dead yet :p

I've heard talk of Grim Batol and personally, I'd say Grim Batol would probably be one of the Caverns of Time instances if anything. Most likely the one that is currently blocked by the big ship, which that same sail design is also seen in Menethil Harbor. If it is pointing toward the Wetlands, I don't see much else that could happen there other than Grim Batol. The only other idea that the ship points me toward is Thrall & Jaina Proudmoore vs Admiral Daelin Proudmoore (which happened on Kalimdor), which is a significant event, but I don't see how it would be much of an instance.

I do see Grim Batol being an interesting CoT instance though... getting to help Krasus and his group of Kirin Tor mages destroy the Dragon Soul... we may get to fight Naltharian the Earth Warder!

Noone seems to think that it might be an announcement about the upcoming Warcraft movie in 2008?

Blizzcon 2007 would be a great place to start the news about it, maybe even show a teaser trailer.

All we have is a "forbidden" webpage and people are already stating they know what it is...

You know...I forgot about the movie....that could be just what it is. But at the same time, Blizzard said at one point that they would like to release an expansion a year. So it could really be either...2 days...we will see :)

I hope it is an expansion, i just LOVE vendering all my epic gear that i ran countless times trying to get...YAY!

Hopefully it is just hero classes without a level cap increase. Some new PvP and PvE content would be really nice, but I really don't want to go through the PvE grind again just to continue to PvP like I did in BC. Forcing PvE on people is not a very good policy and really changes WoW into Waiting on Warhammer for many players.

Hopefully it is not a lvl cap cuz im already struggling to lvl my lvl 62 hunter :P all i want is that hopefully they put some more epic and legendary gear to be dropped in legend bosses or for more gear in pvp rewards.

Well thats what i want and hopefully it is that  :)

I would definitely hope that an expansion would include a new level cap and more quests and items to be gained. PvE and the exploration and conquest of new areas is where it's at. I personally would celebrate the removal of the PvP element from the game entirely as the constant complaints of the PvP'ers are the main reason for the nerfs we keep having to endure as PvE raiders.

  • Tue, Jul 31 2007 9:56 PM ()

i hope u can add more classes then your 9 from the other 2 enstallment's of wow 1 &2

I agree completely that Bliz needs to find a better way to balance PvP and PvE than to keep modding the characters... There's a flag that says you can be attacked in PvP, they've already disallowed various abilities in arenas and changed the functionality of many spells against other players... so WHY THE FRACK can't they make every change because of PvP ONLY effective when in PvP?!?!

    /rant

I don't know much about the lore of Warcraft, but I would absolutely love to find out more about the Hyjal of now, Uldum, Grim Batol, the Emeral Dream, and those kind of things. I would also love to see an expansion that added a "heroic" version of the old world instances, where you could still go to the original, but could also try them out as level 70's. Just imagine: Deadmines on heroic!!!

Hear's hoping we'll hear some interesting stuff at BlizzCon!
